It never ceases to amaze me how many people reminisce about camp this time of year (ahh…..summer WAS “our” season), and I’m always delightfully surprised to hear from folks who still visit Lake Winnipesaukee.
This post really is for all who have been unable to make it back to the Lakes Region and/or for those who wonder, “What in the world does camp look like now?”

Many thanks for these beautiful reflections of “heaven on earth”. Makes me so homesick- I haven’t been back in at least 25 years. Would love to though-how does one find out about rentals or lodging? the Kehonka sign is where? Made me feel a bit cooler just looking at the photos!

Re: rentals/lodging – there isn’t any at Kehonka (it’s a private subdivision). Google “cabin rentals Wolfeboro NH” or similar to find some options.
Re: the Kehonka sign. There are three of which I know, and all are on private property. The green & white sign shown in the slide show is by the Cove Lodge, which has been lovingly transformed into a private home by a former Kehonka girl. The “Kehonka” sign above the cabin entrance is up at Point on one of the original cabins, now used as a guest house by its owner (and I can’t remember the original name of the cabin, but it’s across from Circle Cabin, the other renovated original cabin in the slide show). The third sign is at the entrance of Kehonka Hill, which was sold after Althea’s death.

Who owns Kehonka Hill Now? I share memories of Kehonka with my daughters, because they were lucky enough to attend Kehonka in the early ’80s! Althea was a close friend of the family ( the Coopers). My sister, Janice Cooper Kelly and I Robin Cooper Hueskes went to camp in the 1950s and early 1960s. It was a heaven on earth! I wish there was a special camp like this for my grandchildren.

Amazing to see these, what beautiful memories. I have 2 babies that I want to someday send to a camp just like this one. I know times have changed, but there has to be something similar out there without all of the indoor technology junk that we deal with everywhere we go.
Thank you so much. I will return to Lake Winnipesaukee one day. I was so spoiled by that lake, few others have ever compared.

Thanks for taking and posting these pictures. Too bad so much has changed. Made it to The Hill I think in later 80’s and Althea took me to Point to see the beginning of development. It’s good to think that some things are still recognizable such as Point Beach, the Cove dock and of course, Rattlesnake Island there in the distance. Kehonka – those were the days, my friend. We thought they’d never end…
