This text was taken verbatim from the Kehonka catalog that was in circulation in the 1960s (note: to any parents reading this and thinking Kehonka would be a lovely place for your daughter to attend….the last year camp was open was in 1985):
The riding stable and three rings are readily accessible on Kehonka property. Horses especially selected and schooled for summer use at Kehonka are numerous enough to serve for as many riding hours as may be authorized by the campers’ parents.
Campers are graded according to skills by competent and experienced women of the stable staff. Campers, instructed in small groups, progress from the level of their respective skills into the more advanced are, science and enjoyment of riding. Enthusiasts who so desire have opportunity to assist in the care of mounts and tack.
Confident equestrians who have mastered essential controls, trot forth on seldom-travelled woodland roads. Occasionally their destination is a hillside for a sunset or an overnight campsite near a small lake.
